Chapter Seventeen

When Josie entered her apartment she didn’t waste any time kicking off her stilettos. The soles of her feet had taken all that they could stand. She had been on her feet for fourteen hours straight. With the store break in there was more work than usual. Whoever had broken in did more vandalizing than stealing. As far as Josie could tell it was only a few dresses and a couple of pant suits missing. She wished they had just taken what they wanted without trashing the place. Her and the other clerks had pulled together and gotten everything cleaned up just in time before opening. Their end of the season sale usually brought in plenty of customers, and this one was no different. After closing they had to stay another two hours to get the store ready for the next day. The customers had left the place in almost as bad of shape as the vandalizers had done. Josie wanted to make sure that everything was ready for the next morning, because Byron was going to Sunday Services with her and she didn’t want to be worried about anything at the boutique. Now all she wanted to do was take her a long hot bath, curl up on the couch with her a good book and the pint of chucky monkey ice cream she had picked up on the way home. She had also stopped and got some shrimp and pasta salad from her and Roslynn’s favorite little Italian Restaurant. She got it just in case Roslynn hadn’t had dinner, because she knew that if Roslynn had not eaten she would be waiting on her to see what they would be eating.

After putting the ice cream in the freezer and pasta on top of the stove, Josie headed to her bedroom to get undressed for her bath. She noticed that Roslynn’s light was still on in her bedroom. Josie lightly tapped on the door and opened it without waiting on a respond. “Hey Rosie, there’s some shrimp and pasta salad on the stove if you’re hungry. I’m going to take me a long hot bath and try to bring some life back to my feet.”

Roslynn was lying across her bed with her back turned to Josie. She wanted to tell Josie all that was going on with her and Tad, but she knew that miss holier than thou would take an hour to tell her 99 ways how wrong it was for her to be involved with two men at the same time. But, what other choice did she have. What if she dropped Peter and later found out that Tad was of no use to her other than sex, or worst she picked up the society page and saw Peter and some other woman on the front page. With Peter having such a powerful and respected father she knew that the probability of that was likely. No not this time. She was not going to be on the losing end of the stick.
